RockWave Tech Days: Pushing the Limits of Innovation and Collaboration

Updated: Sep 23

RockWave makes the best subsurface seismic images in the world.

There we said it.

How do we know that? The mix of individual skill and collaborative problem solving that has just been on show at our latest tech day!

RockWave’s entire technical team took time this week to engage in interactive presentations that investigated seismic processing/imaging techniques and the greatest UHRS imaging challenges of our time, experiencing several eureka moments and initiating plenty of ideas for further investigation.

Multiples within seismic data are problematic for offshore wind developers and subsurface explorers. This seismic energy can be classified as noise, because it obscurs the weaker signal that is reflecting off true geological boundaries. Where subsurface channels are present at a proposed offshore windfarm, especially those infilled with soft sediments, it is crucial to have confidence in the interpretation of those channel boundaries and the classification of lithology within. RockWave's advanced seismic multiple removal techniques can give ground modelling teams the best chance of interpreting channels and other important horizons (from a geotechnical perspective) with a high degree of confidence.

Of course, we won’t be sharing any details on this forum, but you can reap the benefits of them when you bring us your next dataset!

This was also the first time we have set up a ‘pop-up’ office for a couple of days and whilst nice to have some team time, it was long enough to realise that our virtual work model is here to stay… whatever Amazon Web Services (AWS) might have to say about it, they are wrong.

After hours of focused work, the day shifted gears—literally—by heading to a go-karting track for some friendly competition. Here it was proven without doubt, that in this arena the careful methodical approach of our technical team was no match for the quick reactions and response time that you have come to love from our commercial team, as Matt Swan & Alastair MacLeod taught them all a lesson in fast paced business, placing a clear 1-2 at the top of the podium. Only Connor Boylan was able to prevent himself being lapped to take 3rd spot. Steve, meanwhile, supposedly a seasoned racer, came prepared with his own gloves and balaclava. Sadly, it turned out to be a case of “all the gear, no idea”, as Steve didn't even make it to the podium!

Our selection process is complete – any company out there want to set up a racing team to challenge us??

What’s Next for RockWave?

We leave the workshop energized and ready to apply the insights gained to our ongoing work. The knowledge shared and the connections strengthened will guide us as we continue to push the boundaries of seismic processing for offshore wind and exploration.

RockWave workshops, tech days and socials are a huge part of our culture and help to make this the best team in seismic… in our opinion...
